Methow Midwifery Classes

Methow Midwifery & Women’s Health offers the following classes. Please call our office to find out current dates and prices, and to register.

1. Childbirth Education

This is a series for new parents that meets weekly for 7 weeks. It is offered every three months and is usually taken when women are in their 3rd trimester. It is not based on any specific training like the Bradley or Lamaze methods, but instead incorporates many different tools for couples to cope with labor. The teachers believe this is a more realistic approach to teaching adults about labor and birth, as every woman is unique.

The topics that will be addressed include the hormones of labor, the stages of labor, how to support someone in labor, pushing, common interventions, newborn and early postpartum basics, and the basics of breastfeeding. Relaxations exercises are incorporated into every class, along with many different birth videos.

2. Childbirth Refresher

This is a one day class for parents who already have children, but want to refresh their memory on some topics around childbirth. It is offered as needed, and not on a regular basis. It can be focused to the participants needs if desired.

3. Cloth Diapers 101 and the Art of Baby Wearing

This is a 2 hour hands-on class to show you some of the types of cloth diapering systems on the market these days. We'll discuss the benefits of using cloth diapers and how to wash them. Then we'll show you some different cloth diaper products and how to use each. This workshop is a great tool to help you wade through the options.

This workshop will also discuss the benefits of baby-wearing, and explain the pros and cons to a myriad of different carriers including slings, wraps, pouches, front packs, and backpacks. There will be time for you to "try on" carriers and see for yourself which are most comfortable and convenient for you.
